Dough Ingredients

  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1 packet active dry yeast (2 1/4 tsp)
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup warm milk Awakens the yeast.
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract Enhances aroma.
  • 1/2 cup dried fruits (raisins, cranberries, or mixed)
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1 egg for egg wash Creates a golden finish.

Instructions
 

Mixing & Kneading

  • In a large bowl, combine the warm milk, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for about 5 minutes until frothy.
  • In another bowl, mix together the flour, salt, cinnamon, and nutmeg.
  • Add the melted butter, eggs, and vanilla to the yeast mixture, then stir in the dry ingredients until everything is combined.
  • Fold in the dried fruits, distributing them throughout the dough.
  • Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 10 minutes until it becomes smooth and elastic.

Rising

  • Place the kneaded dough in an oiled bowl, cover it with a clean towel, and let it rise in a warm area for about 1 hour or until doubled.
  • Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • Once risen, punch down the dough gently and shape it into a loaf or round. Place it in a greased pan.
  • Allow it to rise for an additional 30 minutes.
  • Brush the top with egg wash.

Baking

  • Bake for 25-30 minutes until golden brown.
  • Allow to cool before slicing.

Notes

Store leftovers tightly in plastic wrap or an airtight container. Flavors deepen overnight.
