  • 1 packet active dry yeast

  • 1 cup dried fruit (such as cranberries or raisins) Can be substituted

Preparation

  • In a bowl, combine warm milk and yeast; let it sit until frothy.
  • In a large mixing bowl, combine flour, sugar, and salt.
  • Add the yeast mixture, melted butter, eggs, and vanilla to the dry ingredients. Mix until a dough forms.
  • Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 5-10 minutes until smooth.
  • Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.
  • Punch down the dough and mix in the dried fruit and nuts if using.
  • Shape the dough into a loaf and place it in a greased loaf pan.
  • Let it rise again for about 30 minutes.
  • Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • Bake for about 30-35 minutes or until golden brown.
  • Let cool before slicing and serving.

Notes

Store Christmas Bread by cooling completely, then wrap tightly in plastic wrap or an airtight container. Reheat slices in the microwave for 15 seconds or toast in the oven for a crispy crust. Experiment with fillings and involve the kids in making memories.
