  • 40 pieces saltine crackers
  • 1 cup unsalted butter (2 sticks)
  • 1 cup packed brown sugar
  • 2 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 1/2 cup chopped pecans or walnuts (optional)
  • Sea salt for sprinkling (optional)

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C).
  • Line a baking sheet with aluminum foil or parchment paper and arrange the saltine crackers in a single layer.
  • In a saucepan, melt the butter and brown sugar over medium heat, stirring until it comes to a boil. Boil for 3-4 minutes without stirring.
  • Pour the hot mixture evenly over the saltine crackers.

Baking

  • Bake in the preheated oven for 5-6 minutes, until bubbly.

Topping

  • Remove from the oven and sprinkle chocolate chips on top. Let them sit for a few minutes to melt, then spread the chocolate evenly.
  • Top with chopped nuts and a sprinkle of sea salt, if desired.

Cooling

  • Allow to cool completely before breaking into pieces.

Notes

Store your Christmas Crack in an airtight container at room temperature for about a week. It can also be refrigerated for longer storage. Make sure to let it come to room temperature before serving.
