Cake Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour Provides the foundation of the cake.
  • 1/2 cup sugar For sweetness.
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt Enhances flavor.
  • 2 teaspoons instant yeast For leavening.
  • 1/2 cup milk, warmed Helps activate yeast.
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted Adds richness.
  • 2 large eggs For binding and richness.

Custard and Topping Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup heavy cream For added richness in filling.
  • 1 cup vanilla custard (or pastry cream) Classic filling for the cake.
  • 1/2 cup slivered almonds For topping.
  • 1/4 cup honey Sweet glaze for the topping.

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • In a bowl, combine the flour, sugar, salt, and yeast.
  • In another bowl, whisk together the warm milk, melted butter, and eggs.
  • Gradually add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients and mix until a dough forms.
  • Knead the dough on a floured surface until it’s smooth.
  • Cover and allow it to rise in a warm place until doubled in size, about 1 hour.

Baking

  • Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • Roll out the dough and place it in a greased baking pan.
  • In a saucepan, heat the honey and add slivered almonds; mix well.
  • Spread this mixture over the dough.
  • Bake for 20-25 minutes until golden brown.
  • Allow the cake to cool, then slice it horizontally.
  • Fill it with rich vanilla custard and sandwich the layers back together.
  • Refrigerate before serving for a couple of hours to set.

Notes

Serve with fresh fruits such as strawberries or raspberries. Wrap leftovers tightly in plastic wrap to keep fresh for 3-4 days.
