  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar a little sweetness
  • 2 large eggs the binding power
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract a cozy aroma
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour the heart of our bars
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda to give it lift
  • 2 teaspoons ground ginger we like a kick
  • 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon warmth in every bite
  • 1 teaspoon ground cloves for a little spice
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt to balance the sweetness
  • Optional: icing sugar for dusting just to make it pretty

Instructions

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • In a large bowl, beat the softened butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar together until light and fluffy.
  • Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Then stir in the vanilla extract.
  • In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, ginger, cinnamon, cloves, and salt.
  • Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients. Stir until just combined.
  • Spread the batter evenly in a greased baking pan.

  • Once baked, allow them to cool in the pan for about 10 minutes.
  • Then, carefully transfer them to a wire rack to cool completely.

Notes

Store leftover bars in an airtight container at room temperature for up to five days. They can also be frozen for later enjoyment. Experiment with spices and toppings for variations.
